這是一首大一英文上過的英詩,
作者為美國著名詩人 Robert Frost (1874–1963),
詩中主要表達人在面臨重要抉擇時的猶豫與疑慮,
詩句平實流暢, 涵意深遠充滿智慧,
說也奇怪,大一英文並沒有好好認真上,
但大學畢業這麼多年了,
這首詩卻時常浮現在我腦海中,
尤其每當面臨人生重要抉擇時,
更不禁想起這首詩,
人生的抉擇,
不像實驗室裏可以有對照組實驗設計來比較2項選擇的可能結果與利弊得失,
人生的抉擇,
不論對錯好壞也不能重來,
這首詩裏作者以二條叉路的選擇,
表達了人在面臨抉擇時的迷惘,
在這裏就把它轉錄如下,與有緣者分享:
The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, |
|
And sorry I could not travel both |
|
And be one traveler, long I stood |
|
And looked down one as far as I could |
|
To where it bent in the undergrowth; |

And having perhaps the better claim, |

Because it was grassy and wanted wear; |

Though as for that the passing there |
